Questions?
By Asiri | May 28, 2008
Our youngest son who just turned 4 seems to have mastered a subtle form of torture by the way he says “but why?” whenever his mother or I ask him to do something particularly unsuited to his extremely strong will. I have now come to understand that this is something kids never actually grow out of especially since noting that his other (3) older siblings - the oldest being 14 - still keep doing it. Just that we don’t seem to notice as much since we have grown accustomed to it.
Some say that this is a healthy and positive characteristic and an indication of an inquiring mind searching for solutions to life in general. Perhaps they are right.
Here are some interesting questions we may do well to ask of ourselves; (from philotrust.com)
1. Do you put God at the centre of your life, where He should be?
2. Do you put anything or anyone else in the place of God in your life?
3. Have you ever used the name of God carelessly or insincerely?
4. Do you keep one day free each week, to focus on God and to get some much-needed rest?
5. Do you respect and honour your parents?
6. Don’t murder – and watch your angry thoughts, because they, too, are murderous.
7. Have you ever had impure or lustful thoughts about another person? Don’t commit adultery – not even in your mind.
8. Have you ever stolen anything?
9. Have you ever told a lie or half-truth to another person or about another person?
10. Have you ever been jealous of what is not yours?
(taken from Exodus 20 and Matthew 5) Some call these the 10 Commandments.
Perhaps the world would be a better place if these questions were asked more often….
