When Asiri was 2 years old, the family moved to the city of Kandy, where Asiri’s father worked as a piano technician and his mother was a school teacher and deputy principal. Asiri has a younger brother and a sister who both live in Colombo.
Asiri was educated at Trinity College Kandy and graduated from high school in 1980.
While employed at a hospital in 1986 he decided to study the Bible and attended Rhema Bible Training Centre in Perth Western Australia where he met and married Peta Gates in 1990.
Asiri and Peta then founded Faith for Lanka Ministries Inc. before moving back to Sri Lanka in April 1993 to start a church as a missionary outreach. This church eventually became one of the larger Christian congregations in Kandy, ministering to around 200 people weekly through Sunday services, house-church meetings and outreaches throughout the city. During their time in Sri Lanka, a son and two daughters – Joshua, Michal and Alexandra were born. After training up a team of leaders to manage the church, Asiri and family moved back to Perth – Western Australia in December 2000.
Asiri then underwent training in computer studies for two years, graduating with a diploma of Network Engineering from Challenger TAFE in 2002.
Asiri and Peta now have another son – Ethan.
Asiri worked at the Riverview Church IT department from 2002 – 2008 where he performed the role of IT manager. Since then, Asiri was employed at the Catholic Education Office of Western Australia as the Computer and Network Administrator and now works at Mother Teresa Catholic College.
